St. Jude Drive History

The St. Jude Peoria to Memphis Corvette Drive was the brainchild of many.  Over the course of several years, founder Mike McCoy was approached by Corvette enthusiasts to start a “Corvette Drive” from Peoria, IL, to Memphis, TN.

The Drive is modeled after the St. Jude Rides event, which is a motorcycle ride from Peoria to Memphis that has raised over $2.5 million in 7 years for the Kids of St. Jude!  On May 3, 2012, a team of 31 Corvette drivers and St. Jude supporters departed Uftring Chevrolet in Washington for the 465-mile trek to Memphis.  Participants drove to Memphis, toured the hospital and visited with patients and doctors, then returned to Peoria.

Each driver is required to raise $1,000 and each passenger must raise an additional $500.  There are no expenses, thanks to our generous sponsors, especially Gary Uftring, Joe Knapp, and Uftring Chevrolet in Washington.  The St. Jude Corvette Drive has raised $203,000 in the three years for the Kids of St. Jude — Let’s see what the Corvette community can do in year 4!!

Drive Mission Statement

To support the mission of ALSAC and to provide funds, raised through an annual Corvette drive, to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN and the St. Jude Midwest Affiliate located in Peoria, IL.  These funds are to be used for the continued research and care of children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases.

The ALSAC Mission

We raise funds and build awareness to sustain the mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment  while honoring the memory and heritage of our founder, Danny Thomas.
